MEDIA ADVISORY Senate Committee to Hold Hearing on Homeless Veterans

Harrisburg – The Senate Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee, chaired by Senator Lisa Baker (R-20), will hold a public hearing on Monday, February 6th from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Hearing Room 1 of the North Office Building to examine homelessness among veterans.

“The national tragedy of veterans living on the streets and in shelters demands action,” Baker said. “It is a national disgrace that heroes who have protected our homeland now have no home of their own.”

Testifiers will include:

– Harry Barnes, Former Homeless Veteran, Harrisburg
– Tim Cleveland, Director of Veterans Affairs, Tioga County
– Larry Reece, Commander, VFW, Department of Pennsylvania
– Bob Thomas, President, Tabor Community Services, Lancaster
– Todd Knowlton, Resident of Tabor Transitional Living Center
– Msgr. Joseph P. Kelly, Executive Director, Catholic Social Services, Scranton Diocese
– Sandy Miller, Chair, Vietnam Veterans of America’s National Homeless Committee
– Larry Holman, President, PA State Council, Vietnam Veterans of America, Philadelphia
– Marsha Four, Executive Director, Philadelphia Veterans Multi-Service and Education Center
