After passing SB 1400, and hearing nothing from the House, the Senate again passed an improved version, amending language to address the court decision into HB 1042. By failing to even take up or attempt to negotiate the two bills the Senate sent over, the House of Representatives ducked responsibility, spurned the opportunity to restore balance and fairness in criminal justice, and imperiled community safety. By choosing to stonewall reform, the House has ill-served the public interest in effective and balanced criminal justice. At this point, public pressure is essential to forcing action as the days for decision diminish.
Representative Brenda Pugh and I are hosting a replacement plate event on Thursday, July 23 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the Luzerne County Fairgrounds, located at 3605 State Route 118 in Dallas.

The event will provide constituents with the opportunity to have license plates checked for signs of damage, including loss of reflectivity, peeling, blistering or discoloration. Police will be in attendance to determine if plates need to be replaced and assist with appropriate paperwork. Once submitted to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, the new replacement plate will be mailed to the individual’s home address.

The services provided at the event will be free. The only charge will be if a constituent wants to keep the same number configuration.

Thank you for twenty-five years of service to the community, working to empower women and children through education, support, and advocacy.
250 years ago – on July 4, 1776 – our nation’s founders gathered in Philadelphia and signed the Declaration of Independence. President Abraham Lincoln once described the Declaration as “an apple of gold” and said it gave “liberty, not alone to the people of this country, but hope to the world for all future time.”

I am proud of my ancestor, Lieutenant Henry Stover, a true American patriot who served in the 5th Battalion of the Lancaster County Militia during the Revolutionary War. He and others set their lives aside to fight for independence. We are so lucky to live in a nation where the freedoms sought remain a core of our nation’s strength.

As we gather in our communities to celebrate Independence Day this year, and to mark our nation’s semiquincentennial, may we all take time to reflect on the many blessings of being Americans and recommit to honoring the character, courage, and conviction of those who founded our great United States.

The House must act quickly to prevent PA’s existing second-degree murder sentencing structure from being invalidated, creating uncertainty for victims, prosecutors & the courts. More than 1,150 individuals currently serving sentences for second-degree murder could be affected.
Great to catch up with Francene Pisano and Lindsay Shepherd from @wyomingcountychamber and Gina Sudyam from @pachamber as they gear up for #pachamberday and a discussion of issues of importance to employers and Pennsylvania communities.
Happy Mother’s Day to all moms, both here on Earth and up in Heaven!
Warmest wishes to all celebrating the holy holiday of Easter. While we reflect on the hope and love the day symbolizes, may you enjoy time surrounded by loved ones. Happy Easter!
