HARRISBURG –– Sen. Lisa Baker (R-20) and Rep. Brenda Pugh (R-120) will host an event Thursday, July 23, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. to assist constituents with license plate replacements. The event will be held at the Luzerne County Fairgrounds, 3605 State Route 118, Dallas.
“This event is a convenient way for residents to take care of important vehicle-related issues close to home,” Baker said. ” Whether it’s replacing a worn license plate or getting assistance with other PennDOT services, we’re committed to helping constituents navigate the process and access the resources they need.”
A police officer will evaluate whether license plates are difficult to read and sign the necessary paperwork for eligible residents to receive a free replacement plate from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT).
“This event offers a convenient, local opportunity for residents to resolve essential vehicle and licensing matters right in their neighborhood,” Pugh said. “From replacing damaged plates to answering questions, our team is dedicated to streamlining PennDOT services and ensuring community members easily access vital state resources.”
A license plate is considered illegible when one or more letters or numbers cannot be recognized from 50 feet away or if the plate shows blistering, peeling, discoloration or loss of reflectivity. PennDOT will replace an illegible plate free of charge with a completed Form MV-46, which must be signed by a law enforcement officer or certified inspection station verifying the plate’s illegibility.
Drivers may face a $100 fine for displaying an illegible license plate.
