Baker, Pickett Announce $200,000 in State Funding to Upgrade Wyoming County 911 System

TUNKHANNOCK – Sen. Lisa Baker (R-20) and Rep. Tina Pickett (R-110) today announced $200,000 in state funding to support critical upgrades to Wyoming County’s 911 system. The funding, provided through the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development’s Local Municipal Relief Program, will strengthen emergency communication infrastructure to better protect residents and first responders.

The grant will support a multi-phase project that includes replacing aging radio transmitters, constructing a new tower to improve coverage in low-signal areas and installing remote monitoring systems to ensure long-term reliability.

“Funding for Wyoming County’s 911 system is an investment in public safety ensuring that our first responders have the reliable tools they need to protect lives and property,” Baker said.

“This investment in our local 911 system will allow first responders to keep our citizens safe,” Pickett said. “I am grateful for this funding that will strengthen our emergency systems and enhance our response network.”

Local officials welcomed the funding, noting its importance for residents and taxpayers.

“As the 911 director, I’m excited about what this $200,000 grant means for Wyoming County,” said Jeff Porter. “This is a vital investment in the safety of our residents and first responders, upgrading outdated equipment, expanding our coverage and ensuring reliable communication when every second counts.”

Rick Wilbur, chairman of the Wyoming County Commissioners, added, “We are grateful to Sen. Lisa Baker and Rep. Tina Pickett for this grant that allows us to invest in vital public safety improvements without increasing the financial burden on our residents. This funding ensures our emergency services are equipped to serve and protect the community safely, reliably and responsibly well into the future and continue providing a service when failure is not an option.”
