Nanticoke, March 27, 2020 – State Senator John Yudichak (I-14), Senator John Gordner (R-27), Senator Lisa Baker (R-20) and Representative Aaron Kaufer (R -120) issued the following statement regarding the passage of House Bill 68, which makes changes to Pennsylvania’s unemployment compensation law to address the COVID-19 coronavirus, and the federal CARES Act which has passed Congress.
“As citizens and businesses across Pennsylvania work together to help contain the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus, the Pennsylvania General Assembly has worked together in bipartisan fashion to pass much needed unemployment compensation reforms to assist those workers and small business owners most impacted by the economic disruption caused by the COVID-19 coronavirus.
Coupled with the recently passed federal CARES Act, significant changes will be made to the unemployment compensation law to expand benefits to displaced employees and extend eligibility to small business owners and independent contractors who have been put out of work. We will continue to work together to ensure that our businesses and employees, especially our small business owners have access to the resources they need to recover from the economic impact of COVID-19.”
