Senator Lisa Baker offers remarks recognizing January 23, 2019 as Maternal Health Awareness Day in Pennsylvania.
The Pennsylvania College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists is striving to improve public and professional awareness of the issues related to maternal health and mortality while also promoting promising initiatives that are being undertaken to reduce maternal mortality. This Resolution helps achieve these goals while also working in tandem with the newly established Maternal Mortality Review Committee.
Many of our designated days are celebratory in nature. This one is of more somber origin, with an unmistakable purpose. Through thorough examination and careful application of technology and skill, we endeavor to reduce the incidence of these unacceptable tragedies of maternal mortality. Knowledge builds hope for the future.
