Senator Lisa Baker issued the following statement following the announcement by Chief Oil and Gas that it is exploring alternative sites for a proposed natural gas compressor station in Dallas Township, Luzerne County:
“The decision to locate a gas compressor station farther away from local schools is a welcome concession to serious community concerns. To its credit, Chief Oil and Gas listened to what elected officials and residents had to say and moved to reassess their plan.
This is a win for the public interest. It reflects that decisions on where to locate facilities must take into account common sense safety considerations, not just cost and convenience.
As with many of the matters arising from activity of the gas companies, this is not a perfect solution that will satisfy everyone, but it is a much improved situation.”
