Senator Baker Says “No” to Legislative Pay Increase; Gives Money Back to State Treasury

Stressing the need for more cost-cutting measures, Senator Lisa Baker (R-20) said “No” to a legislative pay increase and returned the money to the state Treasury. She will continue to make monthly payments to the Commonwealth. She is also supporting a legislative effort to suspend the COLA across the board.

“We are facing a huge budget shortfall,” Baker said. “Cuts are going to be made all over state government, and it is important to demonstrate serious intent about reining in costs,” Baker said.

Baker added that she supports a permanent suspension of legislative pay increases. Since taking office, she has declined the COLA. Additionally, she has not taken the per diem payment that legislators may receive for expenses while working in Harrisburg.
