Statement by Senator Lisa Baker on Passage of State Budget

Harrisburg – "Whatever our individual preferences might be, the principle of cost control on which this budget is built is a must in the current economic environment. It is what the majority of taxpayers demand, what the ongoing lack of a substantial rebound in state revenues dictates, and what looking down the road to rising obligations in the next budget warrants.

In tough economic times, it is impossible to agree upon a state budget that will be widely popular. But with the changes in funding made in recent weeks, it has become a budget more practical and less ideological. In the long run, that better serves taxpayers, institutions, and communities."
