Public Meeting to Discuss Prison Security Scheduled
A public meeting to discuss safety and security issues at SCI-Dallas will
be held on April 8th at 6:30 p.m. at the Jackson Township Volunteer Fire
Department, 1160 Chase Road, Shavertown. Representatives from the
Department of Corrections will share the details of a recently announced
plan to reduce tower staffing at the prison.
Senator Baker anticipates a strong turnout of area residents and local
officials. "It is imperative for state officials to listen to the deep
concerns people have. Many believe the plan to be a mistake that will have
safety consequences," she said.
"People remember it did not work out the last time tower staffing was
eliminated," said Jackson Township Supervisor Jay Wilkes. "We just want to
ensure the safety of our residents."
