State Grants Will Improve Water, Sewer Systems in Washington Township

Harrisburg – Little Washington Waste Water Company in Wyoming County has been awarded more than $1 million in state loans and grants through the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) program to make needed water and sewer system improvements in Washington Township, according to Senator Lisa Baker (R-20) and Representative Sandra Major (R-111).

"Residents of Washington Township have experienced regular service outages for many years," Baker said.  "These improvements are crucial to improving service to area residents and protecting health and safety."

Funding will be used to upgrade and expand the Washington Park Wastewater Plant, to replace malfunctioning alarms and to install emergency power equipment.  These enhancements will correct violations of the Clean Streams Law, sewage overflows and unsafe working conditions.

"Protecting our local water supplies and ensuring that residents have safe drinking water is critical," Major said. "I am pleased the state is working with local governments to fund these vital projects, which are important to public health, our environment, and economic development."
