Grey Towers National Historic Site featured on
 September Episode of The Baker Report

Milford – In celebration of the 45th anniversary of the dedication of Grey Towers National Historic Site, the September edition of The Baker Report spotlights this important landmark in Milford, Pennsylvania.   

Grey Towers was once the home of Gifford Pinchot, first Chief of the US Forest Service and twice-elected Governor of Pennsylvania.  Pinchot played a vital role in introducing the concept of environmental conservation to the rest of the country.  On September 27, 1963, the estate was dedicated by John F. Kennedy after it was gifted to the USDA Forest Service by Pinchot's children. 

On the tour, Senator Lisa Baker is joined by Milford Mayor Merrit Quinn, who has many fond memories of Grey Towers.  As Milford High School Class President in 1963, he was even charged with inviting Governor Pinchot to speak at his high school commencement.  Now, Quinn sees Grey Towers as a vital component of the community. 

"One of the biggest industries we have in Milford is tourism…The eating places and antique shops really count on the tourists that come to see the Pinchot mansion," noted Quinn. 

To commemorate the milestone anniversary, Grey Towers will host National Public Lands Day on September 27, 2008.  Free tours of the mansion and an ice cream social will be open to the public.  For those who want a sneak peak at the mansion, the September edition of The Baker Report features Senator Baker taking a tour of the estate. 

"Grey Towers is a beautiful landmark rich in history and tradition," said Baker.  "It is a tremendous asset to Pike County and plays a significant role in bringing visitors to the area."
