Legislative Panel to Visit Hazleton Monday, July 14, to Discuss Findings of Hazleton Cargo Airport Study

Four area legislators today announced that a panel will visit Hazleton on Monday, July 14, to discuss the findings of a study on the proposed Hazleton Cargo Airport.

State Senators Lisa Baker, Ray Musto, Jim Rhoades and John Gordner said the Legislative Budget and Finance Committee (LBFC) will make its presentation from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Hazleton High School Auditorium.

The Senators asked that the report be presented locally so the community can learn more about the results of the study.

"This project could impact our entire region, so it is important that people have an opportunity to hear from the authors of the report first hand," Baker said.

"We want to make sure those who will be most affected by this facility have the opportunity to learn all the details," Musto said.  "The Legislative Budget and Finance Committee has done a great deal of research on the proposed airport, and we want that information to be disseminated to folks here in the district."

Initiated by Senators Baker and Musto through a resolution passed last year, the study reviews the airport's potential economic impact and analyzes the benefits and risks of providing public dollars to support the project.  It is available for review at http://lbfc.legis.state.pa.us/.

The meeting is open to the public.  Area residents are encouraged to submit questions for the panel by contacting their legislators.
