August 28, 2008 – Natural gas exploration was

August 27, 2008 – Senator Baker met with
representatives from Step by Step, Inc., recently to discuss mental health
and mental retardation issues. Step by Step, Inc. is a private, nonprofit
corporation that provides support services to individuals with mental
retardation, autism, and mental illness throughout Pennsylvania. Pictured

August 27, 2008 – Senator Baker attended the Healthy
Heart Fair which aimed to educate emergency responders, police, volunteer
firefighters and E.M.T.s about heart healthy habits. The free event, which was
sponsored by State Representative Karen Boback, was held at the Kunkle Firehouse

August 27, 2008 – Senator Baker paid a visit to the new facility for the Wyoming
Valley Children’s Association (WVCA) in Kingston, PA. The WVCA
is a private, nonprofit organization that offers a wide range of services for
local children, including physical therapy, preschool programs, and hearing

August 27, 2008 – Nearly 50,000 people visit
the Kiwanis Wyoming County Fair annually, and Senator Baker was among them

August 25, 2008 – Senator Baker met with
Forest City officials to discuss a sewer project in the borough. Seated in

August 16, 2008 – The Pond Hill/Lily Lake Fire Department
celebrated its 50th Anniversary and the dedication of a new fire
truck with a festival on fire company grounds. Senator Baker presented a
citation during the festival in recognition of the milestone anniversary and to
honor the service of the many volunteer firefighters who have donated their time

August 7, 2008 – Sister Gemma Brennan was honored with a
celebration at Mercy Center in Dallas for her 100th birthday. At the party,
Senator Baker presented Sister Brennan with a citation from the state Senate

Carnival opened with a parade through Tunkhannock, in which Senator Baker

August 6, 2008 – During her visit to the 146th Annual Wayne
County Fair, Senator Baker took in the sites, presented a trophy to the winner
of a harness race named in her honor, and was greeted by fair officials.

August 6, 2008 – At the Wayne County Fair,
Senator Baker presented a trophy to the winner of a harness race named in
her honor. Timmy Offutt took first place in the race, which was open to three-year-old colt trotters.

August 3, 2008 – Senator Baker served as the
official starter at the 27th Annual Wilkes-Barre Triathlon. The
race, in which Lance Armstrong competed in 1988, includes a 1.5 kilometer
swimming portion, 40 kilometer biking course, and an 11 kilometer run.

Baker helped serve breakfast and greet guests at the 29th Annual Montrose
Blueberry Festival. The event takes place during the first Friday and Saturday
of August each year and proceeds benefit the Susquehanna County Historical
Society & Free Library Association. |
