A group of legislators and stakeholders held a rally Capitol Main Rotunda to announce a lawsuit against Governor Wolf on the proposed closures of Polk and White Haven state centers.  

Senate Bill 500, sponsored by Senator Lisa Baker, will create a County Adult Probation and Parole Advisory Committee. Senate Bill 501, sponsored by Senator Tom Killion, will generate significant savings for the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections by streamlining the process for placement in State Intermediate Punishment, allowing parole agents to quickly detain parolees for violations, and streamlining the process for paroling people who receive a short sentence to prison.

Sen. Lisa Baker, R-20th, offered the following remarks in support of the statute of limitations reform efforts, and her amendment to change the time that a person between the ages of 18 and 23 has to bring a civil claim for sexual abuse from 2 years under current law to the age of 30, increase the criminal statute of limitations to 20 years for this same class of victims, up from the existing 12 years after the offense was committed, and transfer $5 million into the Crime Victims Compensation Fund to fund counseling services. Senate Bill 421, which passed the Senate and House and is on its way to the governor’s desk, received the support of Sen. Lisa Baker, R-20th.

Patrick Solano, of Pittston Township, has received many honors and awards over the years. But the WWII veteran says the recognition he recently received by the state Senate is, “the optimum.”

It is fitting for us to honor Patrick Solano, for his sense of honor and duty and patriotism during World War II.
