Senator Baker Votes Yes on 2017-18 State Budget

HARRISBURG – Senator Lisa Baker, R-20th, voted in favor of the state spending plan for the next fiscal year and issued the following statement:

“This is far from an ideal budget process, but we are again brushing hard against the deadline for decision. In 2015, I cast a “no” vote to signal my dissatisfaction with voting on a spending package when there is still so much uncertain about the shape and sources of the revenues to support it. To meet the current deadline, my vote must necessarily be “yes.” The reality is that turning down a budget on which there is agreement would not improve the process or the product. Approving the budget gives assurance to Pennsylvanians that there will not be a disruptive budget crisis in 2017, and should increase the pressure on us to agree on and approve a revenue package sufficient to support this spending plan.”
