Senator Lisa Baker Comments on Senate’s Passage of Supplemental Budget

Senator Lisa Baker issued the following statement regarding the Senate’s 31-18 passage of HB 1801, a supplemental budget bill, on Wednesday:

“This supplemental state budget is simply another effort to alleviate crisis across our communities, by restoring the $6 billion Governor Wolf vetoed in December.  It extends to schools, colleges and universities, critical access hospitals, agriculture programs, and other state-supported efforts the money needed to make it through the end of the fiscal year.  This is not a satisfactory budget from the standpoint of providing long-range solutions, but it is a sensible one for averting harmful closures and layoffs looming in the weeks ahead.  Under this plan, the structural deficit shrinks, but it does not disappear, so it remains a matter for negotiation and action in the upcoming state budget.”
