Luzerne County Senior Expo set for October 15TH

State Sens. Lisa Baker (R-20th) and John Yudichak (D-14th) are inviting area senior citizens to their 2015 Luzerne County Senior Expo from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 15 at the 109th Field Artillery Armory, 280 Market St. in Wilkes-Barre.

The Senior Expo will feature vendors from local, county and state agencies to answer questions and provide useful information about their programs and services to seniors. In addition, there will be free refreshments, giveaways and free health screenings. Flu shots will also be available for free with an insurance card.

Attendees will find information related to government services, Social Security, health care and insurance, legal issues and fraud protection, senior financial issues and exercise and nutrition tips.

“Many times seniors are unaware of the many helpful programs and services available to them. Our annual Senior Citizens Expo has grown each year and brings many of those services together in one convenient location ,” said Senator Yudichak.

“For five years this event has been a one-stop shop for information and assistance,” said Senator Baker. “It connects seniors with the numerous programs and services available and showcases the work our vendors are doing in the community every day.”

Among the more than 100 vendors are: The Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office of Consumer Protection, PA Department of Human Services and health care organizations such as Bayada, Commonwealth Health, Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, AmeriHealth, Geisinger, Commonwealth Health, Lehigh Valley Health Network, and Allied Services; and health care students from area colleges.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, please contact Sen. Yudichak’s office at 570-740-2434 or Sen. Baker’s office at 570-675-3931.
